ABOUT ME
My name is Giselle Dessert, and I am a freshman Nursing Major here at Howard University. I am proudly Haitian American, originally from Boston, Massachusetts. From a young age, I have been passionate about helping others and making a positive difference in people's lives. In fact, my dream of pursuing a career in healthcare began as early as kindergarten. At that time, I wasn’t sure exactly what type of doctor I wanted to be, but I always knew that helping others through medicine was my ultimate goal. Over the years, that dream has evolved, and I now aspire to become a pediatric nurse. The decision to pursue pediatric nursing comes from my deep desire to work with children and families during some of their most challenging and vulnerable moments. I believe that healthcare is not just about treating an illness but about supporting and uplifting families as they navigate through tough situations. Beyond my academic interests, I have a variety of passions that help me recharge and stay balanced. In my free time, I enjoy writing, cooking, and binge-watching movies. Writing allows me to reflect on my thoughts and express my emotions creatively, whether it's through journaling or composing short stories. Cooking, on the other hand, is something that connects me to my Haitian heritage, as I love preparing traditional dishes for my family. The act of cooking has always felt therapeutic to me, offering a sense of peace and connection to my roots. As for binge-watching movies, I enjoy escaping into different worlds and stories—it’s a great way to relax after a long week of studying or clinical work. It also gives me an opportunity to understand different perspectives and cultures, something that I believe is important in healthcare, where cultural sensitivity is vital.
